RPG in a Box, a tool for easily creating 3D grid-based, voxel-style RPGs and adventure games.
Nalem and Knafeh are childhood friends who loves to play Shogi (Japanese Chess). One day a portal to another world opened, their lives were changed forever.
Do note that the demo is only around 5-10 minutes long.
What is Shogi / Japanese Chess?
Shogi (将棋, shōgi, English: /ˈʃoʊɡi/,[1] Japanese: [ɕoːɡi]), also known as Japanese chess, is a strategy board game for two players. It is one of the most popular board games in Japan and is in the same family of games as Western chess, chaturanga, Xiangqi, Indian chess, and Janggi.
In this game demo I will showcase a certain mechanic which is the drop rule in Shogi. Pieces that you captured from your opponent can be used in future moves. On your turn, you can choose to move a piece or drop/deploy a piece from your hand on to the board.
I could not yet program the whole game of Shogi in this demo, so I thought I will show you guys how does someone solve a Shogi checkmate puzzle called Tsume Shogi!
Tsume shogi (詰将棋 or 詰め将棋, tsume shōgi) or tsume (詰め) is the Japanese term for a shogi miniature problem in which the goal is to checkmate the opponent's king. Tsume problems usually present a situation that might occur in a shogi game (although unrealistic artistic tsume shogi exists), and the solver must find out how to achieve checkmate. It is similar to a mate-in-n chess problem.

Hi jienjien, I downloaded the Mac version and I received an error saying the app could not be opened. I am currently using a Macbook Air ( Monterey 12.6.2 ), I will try again when I am in front of my Windows Workstation in a week or so time. By the way, RPG in a BOX is good isn't it. Farrell, thank you for downloading! I thought it was working but unfortunately, I have no Mac to test it. So, I think it's best for me to take away the versions other than the Windows one. Thanks for letting me know!
No worries, Macs can be a little bit odd when it comes to downloads. I downloaded my Mac version of something I made and I had to jump through hoops to get it working. Your game didn't come up with the unverified warning, it just said the game.app could not be opened.
